Apex Legends: Cipher Lands Nov. 3 With a Crypto Rework, Akimbo Wingman and Ranked Legend Bans
Oct 30, 2026 — Crypto mains, your patience is about to pay off. EA and Respawn released the official gameplay trailer for Apex Legends: Cipher on Thursday, Oct. 29, and confirmed the new season launches Tuesday, Nov. 3. The headline: Crypto is being rebuilt from a passive drone-camper into an aggressive intel-gatherer, and the season's tagline says it all: "the deadliest weapon isn't a gun, it's information."
Crypto, rewired
According to EA's official season update post, Crypto gets a firmware upgrade from his sister Mila that changes how he plays:
- Battery-powered Surveillance Drone: The drone now runs on batteries instead of a cooldown, so it can be picked up and redeployed without a long wait.
- New Sentry Mode: Park the drone in position and it tags enemies in sight for your whole squad.
- Faster EMP: His EMP Ultimate can now be deployed with the press of a button.
In practice, that should make Crypto far less punishing to play in fast-moving fights, where the old long drone cooldown often left him exposed. How it balances out in live matches remains to be seen.
Akimbo Wingman and Strongholds
The season adds the Akimbo Wingman, dual-wielded Wingman revolvers that EA pitches as a combo of precision and firepower.
Strongholds are described as "the evolution of Care Packages." Per EA, raiding one yields crate weapons, corrupted attachments and EVO for the whole squad. The catch: opening a Stronghold takes time and trips an alarm that reveals your location to nearby players. They spawn with cover and Hardlight to help you defend the prize, so expect them to become hot zones every match.
Ranked: Legend Bans arrive
Ranked players in Diamond lobbies and above get Legend Bans. According to EA, every player casts one vote, and the more votes a Legend receives, the greater the chance they are banned for that match. Plan for a backup pick, or two.
Revenant and Lifeline buffs
- Revenant: Shorter Ultimate cooldown, quicker Tactical, and new Upgrades that can extend his Ultimate with each knock, silence nearby enemies after a Shadow Pounce, or automatically refresh Shadow Pounce while an enemy is marked.
- Lifeline: Reduced D.O.C. cooldown and self-healing while gliding, plus Upgrades including an Ultimate cooldown reduction, a shield while reviving, and improved flight mobility.
Cosmetics and the road ahead
EA says a new Mythic Volt SMG, Cryptic Core, can drop from Cipher Seasonal Packs, which EA notes are not available in all regions. The packs also include seasonal skins for Crypto, Wraith, Gibraltar, Revenant and Horizon.
Looking further out, EA's post references "exciting features releasing in Season 31" and confirms that the Major Map Update scheduled for Season 32 will be Kings Canyon Evolved, a reworked map with new, remixed and touched-up POIs, slated for early 2027.

Apex Legends: Cipher launches Nov. 3 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via the EA app, Epic Games Store and Steam, according to EA's press release.
