PUBG Is Getting a Live-Action Netflix Series, and Donald Glover Will Write, Direct and Star

Oct 30, 2026: The battle royale that helped make the genre a global obsession is heading to streaming. KRAFTON has announced that a live-action series based on PUBG is in development at Netflix, with Donald Glover set to direct, write, executive produce and star. It's one of the biggest names yet attached to a video game adaptation, and the story is just getting started: there's no release date, no plot and no wider cast yet.

What KRAFTON announced

In an official press release published on PR TIMES by KRAFTON JAPAN on Oct. 30 at 09:10 JST (8:10 PM ET on Oct. 29), KRAFTON said a live-action drama series based on PUBG is being planned and produced for Netflix. Translated from the Japanese release, the key points are:

  • Donald Glover (Atlanta, Community) will direct, write, executive produce and star in the series. The release describes him as a two-time winner of both the Emmy and the Golden Globe.
  • Stephen Glover will join as a writer and executive producer.
  • Additional executive producers are Michael Schaefer of NEON TV, Fam Udeorji of Gilga, and Jang Taeseok and Lee Sujin of KRAFTON's LV3H.
  • LV3H, KRAFTON's entertainment business, is involved in developing and producing the series as part of KRAFTON's push to expand PUBG into original entertainment.

The release also calls PUBG a global cultural icon that holds seven Guinness World Records.

The Verge's Jay Peters reported receiving the English-language version of the press release on Oct. 29 under the subject line "KRAFTON Announces Donald Glover-Directed PUBG Live Action Series in Development at Netflix." According to The Verge, the announcement says Glover will "direct, write, executive produce, and star in the series," and there was "no word on when the series might actually be out."

Why this is a big deal for game adaptations

Game adaptations have moved from punchline to prestige over the past few years, and attaching a multi-award-winning showrunner and star signals that KRAFTON and Netflix are aiming high with this one. PUBG is also an unusual pick. Unlike story-driven franchises, it has no established main character or campaign plot: a match is 100 players, a drop from a plane, a shrinking zone and a fight to be the last one standing. That gives Glover's team a lot of room to invent, and it's also the biggest open question about what the show will actually be.

Glover's track record matters here. KRAFTON's release specifically names Atlanta, and Deadline and Variety report that Stephen Glover worked on that show as a writer and executive producer (Deadline, Variety). How their style would translate to a battle royale is pure speculation right now. KRAFTON and Netflix haven't said anything about tone, format or story.

What it means for KRAFTON

The announcement fits KRAFTON's strategy of treating PUBG as a long-term franchise rather than a single game. A Korean business outlet, The Asia Business Daily, reported that KRAFTON framed the series as part of expanding the PUBG IP into video content.

For players, nothing changes in the game itself today. No in-game tie-ins or events have been announced.
