Claude Duet is the first personal-assistant-type harness that feels useful
Oct 30, 2026. "Claude Duet is the first personal-assistant-type harness that feels useful" is the title of a user review that reached the Hacker News front page on Oct. 29 (122 points, 136 comments). So what is Claude Duet? Here's what Anthropic's official product page says, kept separate from what early users report.

What Claude Duet is
Anthropic describes Claude Duet as "a proactive agent that understands what needs your attention." Unlike the regular Claude app, which waits for you to open a chat, Duet "comes to you": it takes on tasks, keeps working while you're away, and checks with you before anything important.
According to the official page:
- It's powered by Opus 5.5.
- It's a research preview with a waitlist, open to Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US. Team and Enterprise plans aren't included yet.
- It's a standalone iOS and Android app, and it also opens on the web at claude.ai.
- It uses your existing Claude account, including memory, skills and connectors, and the page says it works with more than 6,000 connectors and plugins.
What it does
The product page lists:
- a morning brief of what needs you, after which it "goes quiet until something needs you";
- flagging what needs you in your inbox and calendar and drafting replies for you to approve;
- larger tasks you hand off by message, like setting up a meeting or building a dashboard, a deck or a brief;
- business chores like finding unpaid invoices and drafting reminders, preparing payroll for your review, and getting contracts ready to send.
You message it like a teammate, by text or voice. Your history stays in one thread, and finished work comes back as a doc, sheet or deck to review.
How it works and stays safe
Anthropic says Duet works "on its own computer in the cloud," using apps you connect. On safety, the page says:
- You approve: it asks before sensitive operations like sending messages or paying.
- Safety built in: approvals, logins and safety checks run in your own cloud computer, so sensitive details stay private.
- Visibility: you can see what it has done and is doing, and steer it.
Usage limits
During the preview, Duet shares your plan's usage limits with the rest of Claude. Anthropic says its background checks count toward those limits, and bigger jobs like a financial model or a deck take more model turns and background work. If you're close to your limits already, that matters.
Known limitations
Anthropic is upfront that it's a preview: Duet "may misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent, and it can miss something that arrives between checking in with you."
What early users say (unverified)
The HN-linked review is a personal blog post (fig.blue), labelled "Not affiliated with Anthropic." The author says Duet feels fast, likes its channels (it creates and organizes separate workstreams), and likes per-channel GitHub repo access. They also say it stores no credentials. That's one user's experience and not confirmed by Anthropic's product page, which doesn't mention channels or per-channel repo access.
Who should try it
If you're a US Pro or Max subscriber who already uses Claude connectors for email, calendar or docs, Duet is aimed at you. Join the waitlist from the official page. Everyone else will have to wait for Team, Enterprise or non-US availability, which Anthropic hasn't dated.
What's confirmed / not confirmed
Confirmed (claude.com/product/claude-duet, read Oct. 30): proactive agent; Opus 5.5; US-only research preview with a waitlist for Pro and Max; iOS, Android and web; shares plan usage limits; asks before sending or paying; runs on a cloud computer; 6,000+ connectors and plugins; the limitations stated above.
Not confirmed: launch date (the page doesn't give one); pricing beyond the plan requirement; "channels," per-channel repo access, speed and "stores no credentials" (user review only); any timeline for Team, Enterprise or other countries. The example business figures on the product page are illustrative demo content, not real data, and we don't repeat them.
