Battlefield 6 "Cannot Connect" Fix: What EA Says to Do When You Can't Connect to BF 6

If Battlefield 6 says "Cannot Connect", or you just can't connect to BF 6, these steps come from EA Help and EA's official Battlefield channels. MetaPatchAI did not test these fixes. Fixes posted by players are marked [Community].

Steps (in order)

  1. Check whether the servers are down. Look at EA's live status page: https://help.ea.com/en/server-status/. Also check @Battlefield on X, which EA Help names as the place it posts about errors. If the servers are down, wait.
  2. Restart the game and your PC or console. (EA Help, BF6 error codes)
  3. Restart your router. Turn it off, unplug it, wait about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on. (EA Help, connection troubleshooting)
  4. Use a wired connection if you can. Mobile, satellite and Wi‑Fi connections are less stable. (EA Help)
  5. Turn off any VPN or proxy. EA lists VPN use as a cause of error 1:85009S and says VPNs aren't officially supported. (EA Help; EA Forums official guide)
  6. Try a different DNS. EA Help suggests Google DNS or OpenDNS if your DNS is unreliable. It also notes it doesn't run either service.
  7. PC: repair the game. Use the EA app or Steam. EA lists this for DiceOnlineError_Unknown [84002S], and also says to clear your cache or repair the game when in-game errors appear.
  8. Check your firewall and NAT. Make sure Windows Firewall (or any other firewall) allows Battlefield 6, the EA app or Steam, and the anti-cheat components.
  9. For 1:86001S or 84008S, open ports. EA's official forum guide says to turn on UPnP and avoid double NAT. If that doesn't work, forward these ports on PC: TCP 80, 443, 9000; UDP 53, 9999. It notes PC ports can vary between the EA app and Steam. Console ports are in the guide.
  10. If nothing works, use Contact Us at the bottom of the EA Help BF6 error page.

Known official issue: Portal servers

On Oct 21, 2026, EA said in the "More to Season 5" community update that a bug stopping players from connecting to Portal servers "has been present for a couple of releases". It also said the team is still trying to reproduce it, and there's no fix date yet. If you only fail on Portal servers, this may be why. https://www.ea.com/games/battlefield/battlefield-6/news/battlefield-6-community-update-more-to-season-5

Confirmed / Not confirmed

Confirmed (EA): the server status page, the restart/wired/VPN/DNS/repair steps, the port list for 1:86001S, and the open Portal connection bug (Oct 21). Not confirmed: any widespread BF6 outage on Oct 28–30, 2026 (check the status page when publishing), the root cause of the Steam thread's errors, and DNS routing as EA's official explanation.
