Google Takes AI Mode Ads Global: 10 New Countries Now, UK, Brazil and Mexico Next, and Ads in Follow-Up Questions
Source: Google blog

Oct 30, 2026: Sponsored results are coming to Google's AI search in a lot more places. In an Oct 28, 2026 post on its official blog, Google said it is scaling ads in AI Mode to 10 new countries, plans to add Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom in Q4 2026, and is launching "multiturn" ads in the U.S. that can show up in your follow-up questions. Here's what changed.
The announcement
The post is from Shashi Thakur, VP and GM, Google Search Ads and Ads on Google Experiences. The key points:
- 10 new markets now: Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore.
- More in Q4 2026: Google "plan[s] to expand to additional locales, including Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom." No exact dates.
- Multiturn ads (U.S.): "To allow ads in follow-up queries in AI Mode, we are launching multiturn ads in the U.S."
- Labeling: ads "will be clearly labeled as 'Sponsored.'"
Google's numbers, and where they come from
Google backs the move with two claims, both from its own research:
- AI Mode queries are "on average, three times longer than traditional searches." Footnote source: Google AI Mode Report, US, May 2026.
- Click-through rates "are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode." Footnote source: Google Internal Data, US, Aug 20 to Sept 3, 2026.
Google also says its research shows people are "comfortable with ads in AI Mode and find them highly relevant." These are company-reported, U.S.-based figures. Google didn't publish the underlying click-through rates or methodology, and the data doesn't necessarily reflect the new markets.
What "multiturn ads" means
AI Mode is conversational: you ask, then narrow things down with follow-ups. Multiturn ads let sponsored results appear in those follow-up queries in the U.S., deeper into a conversation.
Search Engine Land (third-party) gives a hypothetical example: someone researching running shoes who then asks about cushioning or durability. That's the outlet's illustration, not Google's.
The business context (third-party reporting)
The blog post itself doesn't mention earnings, but several outlets tied it to Alphabet's Q3 2026 results, released the same day:
- TechCrunch reported the expansion was announced during Alphabet's Q3 earnings call and quoted Chief Business Officer Philipp Schindler saying the company was "taking our monetization footprint global for the first time."
- TechCrunch and Quartz reported Q3 revenue of $127.6 billion, up 25% year over year, and Search revenue growth of 12%. TechCrunch framed that as a slowdown from earlier in the year.
We haven't checked these figures against Alphabet's earnings release, so treat them as reported.
What it means for you
- If you use AI Mode in one of the 10 new countries, expect to start seeing "Sponsored" results in AI answers. In the U.S., they may now appear in follow-up turns too.
- If you advertise, the reachable AI Mode audience just got much bigger, with three more major markets due before year-end. Google's post doesn't explain how advertisers opt in or how AI Mode ads are targeted.
- If you publish, sponsored listings now compete with organic results inside AI answers in more countries. How that affects clicks to publishers isn't addressed in Google's post.
What's confirmed / not confirmed
Confirmed (Google, official blog, Oct 28, 2026): - Ads in AI Mode are scaling to Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. - Brazil, Mexico and the UK are planned for Q4 2026. - Multiturn ads are launching in the U.S. - Ads are labeled "Sponsored." - The "3x longer queries" and "similar CTR" claims, as Google-reported U.S. data.
Not confirmed: - Exact launch dates for Brazil, Mexico and the UK, or whether multiturn ads will expand beyond the U.S. - Actual CTR figures, ad load, or how often ads appear in AI Mode. - Earnings figures and executive quotes above. These are from TechCrunch and Quartz, not verified by us against Alphabet's filings. - Any opt-out for users. Google's post doesn't mention one.
