OpenAI and ServiceNow Expand Their Partnership: ServiceNow Actions Inside ChatGPT, Codex for App Builders and a 2027 Security Push
Source: OpenAI

Oct 30, 2026: The enterprise AI race is increasingly about where the work actually happens. On Oct. 28, OpenAI and ServiceNow announced an expanded partnership. It puts ServiceNow workflows inside ChatGPT, brings OpenAI models and Codex deeper into ServiceNow's products, and plans a joint cybersecurity product for 2027. Both companies published official announcements the same day, and ServiceNow repeated the news in its third-quarter 2026 earnings release.
Here's what's live now, what's planned and what's still vague.
The short version
- Available now: a ServiceNow MCP plugin in the OpenAI marketplace, with "enhanced capabilities" expected by the end of 2026
- Q1 2027: OpenAI-powered voice features in ServiceNow's Super Intelligence Control Tower
- January 2027: OpenAI-powered security capabilities enter early access, with general availability planned for Q2 2027
- 2027: Codex in ServiceNow's AI Workflow Factory
- Internal rollouts: ServiceNow plans to give all employees ChatGPT Work and Codex. OpenAI says it is using ServiceNow workflows in its own operations.
- Builds on: a partnership OpenAI says was announced "in January"
ServiceNow, from inside ChatGPT
The headline feature is a new ServiceNow integration for ChatGPT. According to OpenAI, an IT team member "will be able to find similar incidents, assess the risk of a change and update a ServiceNow record without leaving ChatGPT."
Governance is the point. Customers connect ChatGPT to their own ServiceNow instance and choose which capabilities to expose. ServiceNow's Action Fabric enforces existing business rules and permissions, so the actions people can take reflect their organization's configuration and access.
ServiceNow is also previewing interactive experiences inside ChatGPT. In OpenAI's example, an on-call engineer could review linked monitoring alerts, recent changes and affected services, then assign the right team, all within ChatGPT.
Three areas of new development
OpenAI's post lists three planned areas:
- Application development. A Codex integration in AI Workflow Factory to help developers build apps using ServiceNow's business context. OpenAI models will also power ServiceNow's Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer.
- Cybersecurity. A joint solution combining OpenAI's cybersecurity capabilities with ServiceNow's asset, identity and business context to investigate vulnerabilities, prioritize risks and coordinate remediation. ServiceNow's release describes it as Security and Risk solutions "powered by OpenAI cyber models."
- Voice. In the Super Intelligence Control Tower, people will be able to describe an AI use case aloud. The system then fills in assessment fields and asks follow-up questions to gather missing information.
OpenAI joins the "Control Tower Alliance"
One detail appears only in ServiceNow's press release: OpenAI is joining ServiceNow's newly announced Control Tower Alliance as a founding member. ServiceNow describes the alliance as its ecosystem for AI, security, infrastructure and governance leaders. The release also says OpenAI plans to make ServiceNow available across its workforce.
What the executives said
From OpenAI's post, Greg Brockman, OpenAI's President and Co-founder: "AI becomes more useful when people can put it to work in the systems their businesses depend on."
From the same post, ServiceNow Chairman and CEO Bill McDermott: "OpenAI is pioneering the frontier of artificial intelligence. ServiceNow is the Super Intelligence Control Tower that orchestrates, secures, and governs AI across the enterprise."
Why it matters
The pitch from both sides is moving from "AI that answers" to AI that acts inside the systems companies already run, with permissions and approvals intact. ServiceNow isn't exclusive here: its earnings release also mentions October integrations with Google's Gemini Enterprise. Most of what was announced Oct. 28 is a roadmap, though. Only the MCP plugin is available today.
