XREAL AURA: The First Wired Android XR Glasses Put Gemini, and Your Games, in Front of Your Eyes
Source: Google

Oct 30, 2026: Google and XREAL have launched XREAL AURA, which Google calls "the first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR." Orders opened Oct 28, 2026 in the U.S., Canada and Korea. For gamers, it doubles as a portable "arcade." Here's what Google's official announcement confirms.
The hardware in one minute
According to Google's post (written by Shahram Izadi, VP & GM of XR):
- Transparent lenses: you see the real world while apps float in your view. The lenses can dim to block out your surroundings, and Google says they turn clear again when someone comes into view.
- 70-degree field of view.
- Under 95 grams: the glasses stay light because the processing sits in a portable compute puck connected by a cable.
- The puck holds the battery and Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite platform, which Google says debuts on AURA.
Where the AI comes in: Gemini on Android XR
Google says Gemini on Android XR "understands what you're seeing and doing, both in the real world and on your screens." In practice, per the post:
- Ask Gemini about whatever is in front of you, or have it tidy up your windows.
- New at launch: share your view, and Gemini can highlight what to focus on, in the room or on a screen.
- It works across a mirrored laptop window too (see below).
The gaming angle
This is the part MetaPatchAI readers will care about. Google lists several ways to play:
- Thousands of Android games from Google Play on a big virtual screen.
- Wired Mirroring: plug in a handheld or PC with a USB-C cable that supports video output, and its screen appears as a window you can resize. Google says no software install is needed.
- Gemini as a game helper: if you get stuck in an Android game, or while streaming from your PC or console, Google says you can ask Gemini to talk you through your next move without putting down your controller.
- XR-native games you play with your hands, from studios including Owlchemy Labs and Resolution Games. New titles arriving with AURA include Fallout Factions and Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars.
- Spatial view turns "almost any video, photo, or game into 3D with a tap."
Work and watch features
Google also pitches AURA as a portable multi-monitor desk and a private theater, with immersive launch films including "Nevatars" and the San Francisco Ballet's "Nutcracker." Android XR brings Google Play apps, including over 150 apps made for XR.

Confirmed (Google, The Keyword, Oct 28, 2026): the name, "first wired Android XR glasses" positioning, 70° FOV, sub-95 g weight, compute puck with Snapdragon Reality Elite, Gemini features, Wired Mirroring, the games and studios named above, the USD 1,099 launch price, regions, Japan's Nov 2 date, and mid-November U.S. shipping.
Not confirmed / not in Google's post: - Battery life, display resolution, refresh rate and input latency, all of which matter for gaming. - Release dates for Fallout Factions and Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, and whether they're in the store on day one. - Exactly which handhelds and consoles work with Wired Mirroring (Google only says USB-C with video output). - Prices outside the U.S. and the price after the launch period. - How well Gemini's game help works in practice. We haven't tested AURA.
