Crimson Desert's First Paid DLC, Charting the Unknown, Takes Pywel Out to Sea

Oct 30, 2026: Crimson Desert's open world just got a lot wetter. Pearl Abyss launched Charting the Unknown, the first paid downloadable content for Crimson Desert Enhanced, worldwide on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 3 PM PT (6 PM ET). It adds ocean and underwater exploration, ships you can build, new story content for the three main characters, romance and marriage, deeper housing, and a business-management layer for the strongholds you've already liberated.

Here's what Pearl Abyss has actually confirmed.

The short version

  • What: Charting the Unknown, described in Pearl Abyss's press release as "the first purchasable downloadable content (DLC) for Crimson Desert Enhanced"
  • When: Oct. 29, 2026 at 3 PM PT, worldwide
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Mac and the Epic Games Store
  • Bonus: a five-hour free trial of Crimson Desert Enhanced for PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe members and Xbox Series X|S players

New stories for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane

The DLC is pitched as a look at what comes next for the cast. According to the release, Charting the Unknown "looks ahead to the future of Kliff, Oongka and Damiane. Having protected Pywel, each sets out to forge their own path."

The Epic Games Store news post about the DLC is headlined "You don't have to finish Crimson Desert to dive into its new oceanic DLC," which suggests you don't need to finish the main campaign to start some of the new content. Pearl Abyss's own release doesn't spell out the unlock requirements, so check the in-game prompts or the official DLC page before you assume you can jump straight in.

Ocean and underwater exploration

This is the headline feature. According to Pearl Abyss, "the adventure in Pywel now also extends out to sea and below the waves." Players can "set sail on a ship they can build to explore new islands, or dive into the ocean to uncover hidden treasure, ancient ruins, and hidden mysteries."

Pearl Abyss hasn't said how many new islands there are or how large the ocean area is, so we're not going to guess.

Romance, marriage and running a business

Charting the Unknown also adds systems that are less about combat:

  • Romance: "By building trust with certain people of Pywel, Kliff, Oongka and Damiane can develop romantic relationships and even marry them," the release says.
  • Stronghold management: Players "can also lease and run facilities in certain strongholds they have liberated, building their wealth through managing these locations."

The release doesn't say which characters can be romanced or which strongholds can hold businesses.

Housing gets structural

Earlier housing was about decorating. The DLC goes further: according to Pearl Abyss, players "can now decide the placement of walls, windows, and other structural elements, as well as the basic layout of their home." Players who liberate certain castles "can also decorate their courtyards and interiors."

Try before you buy

If you've never played Crimson Desert, there's a new on-ramp. Pearl Abyss says "PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe members and XBOX Series X|S players will be able to try Crimson Desert Enhanced free for five hours." Xbox Wire also published its own post about the DLC on Oct. 29.

What about price?

Pearl Abyss's press release doesn't list a price. Some third-party news aggregators have reported a US price, but we couldn't match it to an official Pearl Abyss source, so we're leaving it out. Check your platform's store page for the price in your region.
