Phantom Blade Zero Crash Fix: "AMD Driver Crash" and "Failed to Launch the Game (Event Viewer Error 0xc0000005)"

Players are reporting "AMD driver crash" and "Failed to launch the game (event viewer error 0xc0000005)". What causes error 0xc0000005 and the AMD crashes is unconfirmed. S-GAME, AMD and NVIDIA haven't published a cause or a fix for either. This page lists only S-GAME's official guidance and general troubleshooting steps. MetaPatchAI didn't test anything.

Steps (official guidance first, then general steps)

  1. Install the day-one patch (about 5 GB). S-GAME says it improves ray tracing and path tracing performance and fixes bugs. If you pre-loaded, install it before launching. (S-GAME "Reason and Madness" Steam post, Oct 28, 2026)
  2. NVIDIA: use driver 617.42 with a clean install, not 621.01. S-GAME says it saw "performance instability" with 621.01. Stay on 617.42 until NVIDIA's next driver. (Same post)
  3. AMD: get drivers only from AMD: https://www.amd.com/en/support. S-GAME hasn't published any AMD-specific driver advice.
  4. Verify the game files on Steam (general step). Go to Library, right-click Phantom Blade Zero, then Properties, Installed Files, and Verify integrity of game files.
  5. Check your PC against the official specs (Windows 10/11 64-bit, DirectX 12, SSD). See /gaming/phantom-blade-zero/pc-settings/.
  6. Report it to S-GAME. S-GAME support staff on Steam ask for your CPU, GPU, driver version, OS version and RAM, sent through the official site's Customer Support. (S-GAME staff reply, Steam thread 572679173079951815) Support page: https://pbz.s-game.com/support/ko-KR/

Note: unconfirmed community reports (not fixes)

Some players have described symptoms in Steam threads. These are not confirmed by S-GAME or AMD, and they aren't presented as fixes: - [Player reports: Steam threads, Oct 28–29, 2026] One RX 9070 XT owner describes white squares in the sky (Oct 28): https://steamcommunity.com/app/4115450/discussions/0/572679173079943322/ . S-GAME and AMD haven't acknowledged it, and there's no confirmed fix.

Confirmed / Not confirmed

Confirmed (S-GAME): the day-one patch; the NVIDIA 621.01 instability and the 617.42 advice; how to report to support. Not confirmed: the cause of error 0xc0000005; the cause of the AMD driver crashes; any fix for either.
