Phantom Blade Zero on Linux and Steam Deck: "Works on Linux"? (Proton Status)
A Steam thread titled "Works on Linux" and another saying "I cannot run this game on my laptop, which uses an RTX 4050" are why we wrote this. There's no native Linux version. Here's what official sources say, with Linux reports labeled as community. MetaPatchAI didn't test anything.

Steps
- Check your hardware against S-GAME's minimum specs: Windows 10/11 64-bit, DirectX 12, an SSD, GTX 1660 6GB / RX 5500 XT 8GB, and 16 GB RAM. Every official target assumes upscaling is on. (S-GAME; see /gaming/phantom-blade-zero/pc-settings/) The minimum spec lists desktop GPUs, and S-GAME hasn't published a rating for laptop GPUs such as the RTX 4050.
- On Linux, run it through Steam Play (Proton). Before you buy, check the community reports on ProtonDB (a community source, not official): https://www.protondb.com/app/4115450 (accessed 2026-10-30)
- Steam Deck: Valve's Steam Deck rating is still Unknown (not yet tested). S-GAME says it "extensively tested the game on mid-range and lower-end PCs, as well as handhelds". (S-GAME Steam post, Oct 28, 2026) That isn't a Deck rating.
- NVIDIA on Linux: S-GAME's driver advice (617.42) is for Windows drivers. Its Linux relevance isn't confirmed.
Community reports (not official; ProtonDB is a player-submitted database)
- [Community source: ProtonDB, https://www.protondb.com/app/4115450, accessed 2026-10-30] Rated Platinum from 17 reports. Players report it running on Proton 11.0-2, GE-Proton11-11 and CachyOS Proton.
- [Community source: ProtonDB, same link, accessed 2026-10-30] One player reports about 75 FPS at 1440p Ultra (RX 9060 XT 16GB, Proton 11.0-2). That's a single report, not a benchmark.
- [Community source: ProtonDB, same link, accessed 2026-10-30] One NVIDIA user reports needing the launch option
PROTON_NVIDIA_LIBS=0 %command%and seeing missing textures. Another reports HDR needed extra launch parameters. - [Press: Steam Deck HQ review, Oct 25, 2026, https://steamdeckhq.com/game-reviews/steam-deck/phantom-blade-zero/] It rated the game 1/5 on Steam Deck, at 23–27 FPS on the lowest settings.
Confirmed / Not confirmed
Confirmed: no native Linux version (Windows only on Steam), no Steam Deck Verified rating yet, S-GAME's handheld-testing statement, and the official minimum specs. Not confirmed: official Linux or Steam Deck support, specific Proton versions (community reports only), Deck FPS numbers, and RTX 4050 laptop performance.
