Curse of Resthaven Is Out: A Gothic Time-Loop Roguelite Where You Govern a Doomed Island

Primary sources: Digital Bandidos launch press release, via Games Press (Oct 29, 2026), Xbox Wire post by Hilltop Studios director Scott Christian (Oct 30, 2026), Curse of Resthaven on Steam, Xbox Store listing, PlayStation Store listing. Steam and Xbox prices rechecked Oct 31, 2026, 12:05 PM ET.
Oct 30, 2026: You've just been named governor of a struggling island colony, your niece is missing, and six days from now everything gets wiped out. Then you wake up back on day one, and you're the only one who remembers. That's Curse of Resthaven, the new gothic horror "narrative roguelite" from Toronto's Hilltop Studios (Lil' Guardsman), published by Digital Bandidos.
It launched Oct 29, 2026 on PC (Steam), Mac, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The pitch
The press release describes it as a mix of "exploration, trading and management, investigation, and deckbuilding in a stunning hand-drawn adventure." You play Ambrose, the colony's new governor, who is searching for his niece Amalia. In the developer's words on Xbox Wire, "Resthaven is destroyed six days into his tenure… and Ambrose is sent back to the day of his arrival, the only one to remember the island's fate."
Per the official feature list:
- Bring riches to Resthaven: trade and haggle with visiting merchants and revive "six upgradeable businesses"
- Investigate the islanders: interrogate "25 fully-voiced characters, each with their own secrets and agendas"
- Explore beyond the walls: card-based expeditions into the island's wilderness
- Accept divine boons: each reset, the island's goddess offers "one of three Boon Cards," each with upsides and downsides
- Uncover the truth: "There are three timelines to complete. Only by reaching all three conclusions will you unlock the fourth, true ending."
Tips straight from the director
In his Xbox Wire post, Scott Christian shares several tips worth knowing before your first loop:
- "Talk to everyone, and then talk to them again." What people tell you depends on what Ambrose already knows.
- "Don't treat trading as a side activity." Resources, not just money, open up expeditions.
- "Knowledge is your most valuable resource." Your progress carries between loops, so plan each run around what you want to learn.
- Use your journal and timeline. A "???" on the timeline "means something important is happening at that moment you haven't discovered yet."
- Clues come in hidden tiers. Behind the scenes, Hilltop sorts clues into bronze, silver and gold. Gold ones "unambiguously reveal the next step in a lead," and only one or two townspeople have them.
- New Game+ lets you "fast-track through content you've already experienced" after you finish a timeline.

Small team, big swing

What's confirmed / not confirmed
Confirmed (publisher press release, Xbox Wire, store pages): - Out Oct 29, 2026 on Steam (Windows/Mac), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; $19.99 list - Six-day time loop, 25 voiced characters, three timelines plus a fourth true ending, New Game+ - Steam demo save carries over to the full game - Switch, Switch 2 and PS4 versions are planned with no date
Not confirmed / worth noting: - Six or seven days? The Xbox Wire game description at the bottom of the post (and the Xbox Store description) says the island will be destroyed "in seven days," while the developer's own text, the press release and Steam all say six. We went with six. - How long the launch discount lasts. Steam showed 10% off when checked (Oct 31), but we didn't see an end date. The press release says the 10% launch discount stacks with the 5% bundle discount. - PS5 store price and any PS Plus or Game Pass deal. None was announced in the sources above.
