Elden Ring "Game Closing Without Warning" Crash Fix (PC)

If Elden Ring is closing without warning on PC, these steps come from FromSoftware and Bandai Namco only. MetaPatchAI didn't test anything.

Suggested path: /gaming/elden-ring/crash-fix/

Steps

  1. Update your graphics card driver. Both FromSoftware's FAQ and Bandai Namco recommend this.
  2. Verify your game files on Steam. Go to Library, right-click ELDEN RING, then Properties, Installed Files, and "Verify integrity of game files". (FromSoftware FAQ)
  3. Turn off ray tracing if it's on. Go to System, Graphics Settings, Ray Tracing Quality, and set it to OFF. FromSoftware says that from update 1.09 it could switch on by itself, and that some settings can stop the game from starting or make it unstable. It also says to check the ray-tracing specs. (eldenring.jp, Apr 18, 2023)
  4. Plug your monitor into the graphics card, not the motherboard. FromSoftware lists this as a fix for low frame rate. (FromSoftware FAQ)
  5. Still crashing? Report it through FromSoftware's contact form, or go to Steam Support for ELDEN RING: https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithGameTechnicalIssue?appid=1245620

Confirmed / Not confirmed

Confirmed: the driver update, verifying files, the ray-tracing OFF workaround, and the video cable advice. Not confirmed: what caused the crash in the Steam thread, and any mod- or overlay-related cause.
