HITMAN Update 3.290 Lets You Pull Grenade Pins With Your Teeth in VR, and Closets Are No Longer Safe for Targets
Source: IO Interactive

Oct 30, 2026: IO Interactive has released version 3.290 of HITMAN World of Assassination, the "Season of The Host" update. Most of the headline changes are VR-focused, but flat-screen players get changes too: bodies hidden in closets can now be finished off, NPCs react to live grenades, and thrown bananas split on impact. The patch went out on Oct. 29 on every platform the game supports.
The short version
- Version: 3.290.0, "Season of The Host"
- Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, iOS/macOS, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2
- Maintenance: started Thursday, Oct. 29 at 9:00 PM UTC (5:00 PM ET); the patch download rolled out at 10:15 PM UTC (6:15 PM ET), per IOI
- Biggest changes: hands-on grenades in VR, killable targets in closets, NPCs that react to grenades, hiding illegal items by line of sight, and bananas that split when thrown
- Switch: IOI says a separate hotfix for issues in the new The Host Elusive Target mission is coming "in the following week"
Gameplay changes for everyone
Closets no longer save your target. IOI's notes say a body stashed in a closet or container "is no longer unkillable." You can shoot into the container, and the shot uses the body's actual hitboxes, so you have to aim where the target is lying. Explosives also reach targets stashed in containers. Because of that, IOI says, targets "can finally be stashed like everyone else." This applies in VR too.
NPCs take grenades seriously. A live grenade landing nearby is now noticed, called out and run from. A flash grenade stuns anyone already reacting to it, and throwing one in front of someone counts as a hostile act.
Line-of-sight concealment. You can now hide an illegal item by putting something between it and nearby people: your own body, a wall or a pillar. In IOI's words, "If a guard can't see what's in your hand, they've got nothing to object to." This works in both VR and the regular game.
Bananas got meaner. Thrown bananas now split on impact and arm a slip-trap. You can still place them as before. In VR they also split when dropped or tossed.
Contracts. A new Play Next option on the Contracts debriefing screen jumps straight to the Contracts page.
The VR changes
VR players get the longest list. Highlights from the official notes:
- Physical grenade pins: pull the pin with your free hand, or bring the grenade to your face and pull it with your teeth. Once the pin is out the fuse is running, so you can cook the grenade.
- Catch and return: you can now catch grenades and flashbangs thrown by NPCs and throw them back.
- Shield your eyes: raising an arm in front of the headset reduces the flashbang white-out.
- Hands-on interactions: rat poison vials open by hand, and hacking Alma's laptop on Hawke's Bay now involves inserting the USB and typing.
- Comfort: mission intros in Paris, Sapienza, Marrakesh, Bangkok, Colorado and Hokkaido now have smoother camera movement and full 3D presentation. IOI says more locations will follow.
- Fixes: NPCs in VR now reload and run out of ammo, and Mumbai Chawl doors can be lockpicked again.
Notable bug fixes
The fixes include a crash when loading a save made while a target was in lockdown, a Safehouse crash when climbing a ladder with two large items, and a bug that blocked aiming through windows when Weapon Aim was set to toggle.
Known issue: NVIDIA ray tracing crash
IOI lists a known issue on the newest NVIDIA drivers (621.01 WHQL): launching Chongqing or Mendoza with ray tracing enabled can crash the game. Turning ray tracing off lets both locations load normally, and IOI says a fix is coming in the next patch.
