Primary source: Ysbryd Games, "Available now: WORLD OF HORROR 1.2 - AS BELOW SO ABOVE," WORLD OF HORROR Steam announcement (posted Oct 30, 2026, 10:32 AM ET per the Steam News API). Also: Gematsu's write-up by Sal Romano, quoting Ysbryd Games (Oct 30, 10:12 AM EDT). Rechecked Oct 31, 2026.
Oct 30, 2026: Just in time for Halloween, the cosmic horror RPG WORLD OF HORROR has gotten its biggest update yet. Version 1.2, "AS BELOW SO ABOVE," is out now as a free update for everyone who owns the game on Steam, GOG and itch.io. Ysbryd Games' overview (quoted by Gematsu) says it makes the game 20% bigger.
Console players will have to wait. Ysbryd's post says the update is "coming to consoles in 2027"; Gematsu reports those are PS4 and Switch, the consoles the game is already on.
The headline additions
Per Ysbryd Games' Steam announcement:
- Two new Old Gods. IKT-YOSIS, THE FIRST NIGHTMARE sleeps beneath the mountains and slowly reshapes the world above with "weird weather and wrathful consequences." The second, THE WAR FOR SHIOKAWA, has four cults summoning four eldritch masters at the same time.
- Three new playable characters. Two are named: KIRIKO, a tarotist whose cards "could determine the town's fate," and SATOSHI, a young hiker who explores the mountains.
- Scenario Mode. Self-contained stories set before the main game. The first, FOREST OF FEAR / TAPES OF TRAGEDY, follows MAKOTO, a school AV club member filming a documentary about the forest's oldest legend.
- Better modding on Steam Workshop. Players can now make their own enemies, events and mysteries, with more tools including custom UI and flags.
- More events, enemies, items, spells, curses and injuries, plus balance changes, quality-of-life features and bug fixes.
Platforms and price
- Available now: Windows and macOS, as a free update for existing owners, in all of the base game's languages
- Stores: Steam, GOG and itch.io
- Consoles: "coming to consoles in 2027" (PS4 and Switch, per Gematsu). No exact date yet.
What the dev team promised back in February
When Ysbryd first announced 1.2 in a February 2026 Steam post, it listed some planned numbers. These were pre-release plans, and the Oct 30 launch post doesn't repeat them, so treat them as a guide, not final patch notes:
- 60 new events (+32%), including a new MOUNTAINS location
- 10 new allies (+34%) and a reworked conversation system
- About 20 new injuries, mutations and curses, 19 new enemies and 30 new items
- WEIRD WEATHER, a forecast system that lets you plan harder mysteries for better weather
- Three new challenges (including [YEARBOOK]) and 22 new achievements, plus cloud saves
- A reworked modding system that's "backward compatible with 1.0 content"
That February post also said the first scenario would include a way to "finally" fix the FOREST TAPES and find a TELESCOPE.
Why it matters
A free update that makes the game 20% bigger, launching right before Halloween, is a good reason to go back to SHIOKAWA. The Workshop changes could also matter more over time than any single new Old God.
What's confirmed / not confirmed
Confirmed (Ysbryd Games' Oct 30 Steam announcement): - v1.2 "AS BELOW SO ABOVE" is live now as a free update on Windows and macOS via Steam, GOG and itch.io - Two new Old Gods (IKT-YOSIS; THE WAR FOR SHIOKAWA), three new playable characters (KIRIKO and SATOSHI named), Scenario Mode with FOREST OF FEAR / TAPES OF TRAGEDY - Workshop modding for custom enemies, events and mysteries - Console versions of the update are coming in 2027 (PS4 and Switch named by Gematsu) - "20 percent bigger" (Ysbryd's overview as quoted by Gematsu; the February post called a roughly 20% increase the goal)
Not confirmed: - The third new playable character. The launch post names only Kiriko and Satoshi. - Final content counts. The February numbers (60 events, 19 enemies, 22 achievements and so on) were plans. We haven't seen them confirmed in the launch notes. - A console release date beyond "2027," and whether PS5 or Switch 2 will get native versions. Only PS4 and Switch are mentioned. - Save compatibility with existing runs. The launch post doesn't address it.
