Age of Empires IV: Raiders of the North: What You Get and How to Play the New Crucible Co-op Missions

By MetaPatchAI Guides Team · Edited by Stephen Pierce

An evergreen how-to based on World's Edge's official launch post (Oct 29, 2026). MetaPatchAI didn't test anything.

Steps

  1. Get the expansion on Steam, the Microsoft Store, Xbox or PlayStation 5. It's a paid DLC for Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition (Steam store listing). Store links are on the official post.
  2. Update the game. The launch arrived with update 17.0. World's Edge says it includes "additional fixes and changes that were not part of our 17.0 Preview" (see the 17.0 release notes linked from the post).
  3. Open the Crucible. The mode is "now playable solo or in two-player co-op".
  4. Play the four new missions. Owning Raiders of the North gives "exclusive access to FOUR entirely new Crucible missions". The post says new and existing missions now allow co-op play with a friend.
  5. Pick a new civilization: the Vikings or the Scots.

What's included (official)

  • Two civilizations: the Vikings (Sagas, Völur seers, the Longhouse economy, Berserkers) and the Scots (infantry focus, stealth-forest ambushes, Highland Cattle, Fishponds, Gallowglass, Border Reivers)
  • Crucible: four new co-op missions, plus new objectives, Boons, Perks, Mutators and civilization talent tracks. There's a progression system with Boon Ascension, and Conqueror Mode has 25 new weekly mutators.
  • Two biomes: Scottish Heathland and Tundra Summer

Confirmed / Not confirmed

Confirmed (World's Edge, Oct 29, 2026): everything above, except the DLC/Anniversary Edition detail, which comes from the Steam store listing. Price: $19.99 USD on the US Steam store (released Oct 29, 2026; Steam store data for the US region, checked Oct 30, 2026, 3:28 PM ET). Prices vary by region and can change.

Not confirmed here: whether co-op needs both players to own the DLC (the post says only that DLC owners get the four new missions); and any unit stats or civilization strength. We won't add a civ ranking or build order without a primary source.
