Escape the Backrooms "Lost & Found" Update Is Live: 2 Free Skins, the Game's First Paid DLC, and Steam Deck Verified

Oct 30, 2026: Escape the Backrooms just shipped its biggest housekeeping patch in a while, along with a first for the game. The Lost & Found Update went live on Oct 29, 2026 "across all platforms." It adds two free wanderer skins, a long list of bug fixes and crash fixes, Steam Deck improvements and Steam Deck Verified status. It also brings the co-op horror game's first paid DLC: a $4.99 cosmetic pack.

What's new: the skins

Free with the update: - Entity 67 - Lost in Transit

Lost & Found Cosmetic Pack ($4.99), five skins: - Remodeling Co. Employee - The Actor - Party Crasher - Misprint - Black Knight

The developers say this is new territory. In the cosmetics announcement, they write: "We know paid DLC is a new step for Escape the Backrooms, but adding optional cosmetics helps ensure we can support the game and keep expanding it with level & skin updates for a long time to come!" They describe the pack as "testing out optional paid cosmetics."

The fixes that matter most

Multiplayer & online

  • Fixed freezes or crashes after sitting idle in a lobby for a long time.
  • Online features now come back if you launch offline and then reconnect.
  • Fixed kicked players' characters staying visible, which could also make the elevator control panel disappear.
  • Several voice-chat fixes: Switch players with an Xbox host, party chat leaking into the lobby, certain wireless headphones, and mic distortion on PC.
  • Better network error handling on Nintendo Switch 2 when a host leaves.

Level fixes

  • Plastic Mariana: the shark no longer stops chasing after a kill, plus fixes for invisible and clipping balls and leftover ball-pit audio.
  • Level 94: fixed a disconnect that could stop the puzzle door from closing and the clown chase from starting, and animatronics freezing.
  • Darkened Suburbs (Level 9): the Wretch can no longer get stuck in the MEG bunker's opening corridors.
  • Level 974, The End, Level 10 (the Chainsaw Faceling T-pose) and the Deathmoth spectator view also got fixes.

Crashes & performance

  • Fixed two PS5 crashes when joining games in progress (MEG Base in Darkened Suburbs, and Grassrooms).
  • Fixed a crash after Reset Level in Darkened Suburbs.
  • Performance work for Windows PC via the Xbox app, including "significant frame-rate drops affecting indoor levels."

Steam Deck

  • Better controller compatibility, including a fix for an issue that "could prevent players from accessing the game."
  • Changing controller type no longer needs a restart.
  • Better text readability.
  • "We are now Steam Deck verified!"

What's next

This update was announced on Oct 8 as the start of the studio's Q4 2026 roadmap. The same post said the team also plans new levels, with "more information … coming soon." It didn't name any levels or give dates.

What's confirmed / not confirmed

Confirmed (official Steam patch notes and announcements, Oct 29, 2026): - The Lost & Found Update is live on all platforms. - Free skins: Entity 67 and Lost in Transit. - The $4.99 Lost & Found Cosmetic Pack contains Remodeling Co. Employee, The Actor, Party Crasher, Misprint and Black Knight. - Fixes for multiplayer, voice chat, levels, PS5 crashes, Xbox-app PC performance and Steam Deck. The game is now Steam Deck Verified. - New levels are planned as part of the Q4 2026 roadmap (Oct 8 post).

Not confirmed: - Names or release dates for the new levels. - Prices outside the US. Only $4.99 was stated, so check your platform store. - Whether more paid cosmetic packs will follow. The developers call this a "test."

Note on spelling: the patch notes say "Remodelling Co. Employee" and the cosmetics post says "Remodeling Co. Employee." Both are official spellings of the same skin.
