Metro Redux Next-Gen Update on Xbox Series X|S: How to Get It and What It Changes

By MetaPatchAI Guides Team · Edited by Stephen Pierce

An evergreen how-to based only on 4A Games' official Xbox Wire post (Oct 29, 2026). MetaPatchAI didn't test anything.

Steps

  1. Own Metro 2033 Redux and/or Metro: Last Light Redux on Xbox, then download and apply the free Next-Gen Update on Xbox Series X|S. ("Once you've downloaded and applied the free update…", 4A Games)
  2. Choose a performance target: "true 4K resolution at 60fps or upscaled 4K at an even smoother 120fps." 4A TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing are included. 4A doesn't say what the menu option is called.
  3. Feel it in the triggers: the update adds "full support for the XBOX controller's Impulse Triggers." 4A doesn't mention a setting to toggle it.
  4. Playing on an Xbox Ally or Ally X? 4A says those devices get "full support and optimisation", and the update adds Xbox Play Anywhere.

What changes (official)

  • More detailed textures, refined lighting and shadows, richer environmental detail and better animation.
  • 4A says each change was tuned to "preserve the look and feel of the original games."
  • METRO 2039 launches Feb 4, 2027 (Xbox Wire).

Confirmed / Not confirmed

Confirmed (4A Games via Xbox Wire): the free update, both games covered, the 4K60 or upscaled 4K120 targets, 4A TSR, the visual upgrades, Impulse Triggers, Ally support, Play Anywhere, and the METRO 2039 date. Not confirmed: Xbox Series S targets (the post doesn't separate S from X), PlayStation or PC equivalents, the name of the performance setting, and how Play Anywhere works if you already own the games.
