Silent Hill: Townfall Difficulty Modes Explained: Story, Normal, Hard or Nightmare (Patch 1.6.0)
By MetaPatchAI Guides Team · Edited by Stephen Pierce
An evergreen guide to choosing and changing difficulty in SILENT HILL: Townfall. It's based only on Screen Burn Interactive's official patch 1.6.0 post (Oct 29, 2026). MetaPatchAI didn't test anything.
Steps
- Update to patch 1.6.0. The main menu should show v1.6.155963 on PC or v1.6.156035 on PS5 in the lower right corner. (Screen Burn)
- Pick the mode that matches how you like to play:
- Story: "a more forgiving experience", with "fewer enemies, reduced damage, and more freedom to explore without the constant threat of discovery."
- Normal: "Fight when you can, evade when you have to." The Weight can kill instantly on contact again in this mode.
- Hard (new in 1.6.0): "Evade when you can, fight if you have to." Enemies have more health, deal more damage and are more sensitive to sounds you make.
- Nightmare: the most punishing. Screen Burn says it's "certainly not recommended for a first playthrough." You'll see a warning screen if you choose it for a first run.
- Change your mind any time. "You can freely adjust the difficulty at any point during your playthrough." (Screen Burn)
Other 1.6.0 changes worth knowing (official)
- Your position now shows on the map in all difficulty modes.
- How well enemies hear you now scales with difficulty.
- The reduced severity of The Weight's attacks now applies in Story mode only.
- Some resources were adjusted in parts of the game, and the difficulty selection screen now gives a clearer summary of each mode.
- PC only: a DLSS Ray Reconstruction option was added.
Confirmed / Not confirmed
Confirmed (Screen Burn, Oct 29, 2026): everything above. Not confirmed: exact enemy health or damage numbers per mode (not published), and whether trophies or achievements depend on difficulty. We won't add per-mode numbers unless Screen Burn publishes them.
