SILENT HILL: Townfall Patch 1.6.0 Adds Hard Mode, and The Weight Can One-Shot You Again

Oct 30, 2026: Just in time for Halloween, St. Amelia got a little more customizable, and in one case more lethal. Screen Burn Interactive released SILENT HILL: Townfall patch 1.6.0 on Oct 29, 2026. The headline change is a new Hard difficulty, which brings the game to four difficulty modes, plus a rebalance of all of them. One detail will matter to anyone who's been chased: on Normal, The Weight can kill instantly on contact again.

The four difficulty modes, explained

According to the developer's post (signed by Jon McKellan):

  • Story: the most forgiving option. Fewer enemies, reduced damage, and more freedom to explore "without the constant threat of discovery."
  • Normal: balanced, with combat as a viable option and adjusted resources to support it. Motto: "Fight when you can, evade when you have to." The Weight's instant kill on contact is restored here.
  • Hard (new): leans toward stealth. Enemies have more health, deal more damage and hear you more easily, but without some of Nightmare's harshest mechanics. Motto: "Evade when you can, fight if you have to."
  • Nightmare: the toughest. Even more perceptive enemies and bigger consequences for mistakes. The studio says it's "certainly not recommended for a first playthrough."

You can change difficulty at any point during a playthrough, according to the post.

Why The Weight changed

Screen Burn says it restored The Weight's instant kill on Normal "now that a wider range of difficulty options are available" and because his behaviour "has been refined and improved since launch." The patch notes add that The Weight's attack severity reduction is now limited to Story Mode only. If you want the softer version of that encounter, Story is the setting to pick.

Check your version number

Screen Burn asks players to confirm the main-menu version (bottom right): - PC: v1.6.155963 - PlayStation 5: v1.6.156035

What it means for players

This patch is mostly about giving players a choice. Players who bounced off the threat level now have Story mode with a gentler Weight, and stealth players get Hard as a middle step before Nightmare. Map position in every mode and the colourblind valve fix are quality-of-life changes many players will notice in their first session.

What's confirmed / not confirmed

Confirmed (Screen Burn Interactive, official, Oct 29, 2026): every change listed above, the four difficulty modes and their descriptions, The Weight's restored instant kill on Normal, the DLSS Ray Reconstruction option on PC, and the PC/PS5 version numbers.

Not confirmed / not stated: - Exact numbers behind "increased health," "more damage" or the resource adjustments. The notes don't give values. - What exactly the "general improvements and bug fixes" are. - Platforms other than PC and PS5. The post only lists version numbers for those two. - Whether trophies or achievements depend on difficulty. - Any future patch or content roadmap.

We haven't played 1.6.0 yet; this summarizes the official notes.
